Analysis Of Footprints In The Sand Poem - 1510 Words
Mary Stevenson was an american american poet, who through her work gave her love to many who are desperately searching for a sign of light. This poem is titled ââ¬Å"Footprints In The Sandâ⬠gives a powerful message of love to its reader. Stevenson uses the story of a revelation one man had in his dream one night. In this dream the man saw himself walking down a beach with God, as he walked along the beach he saw a set of footprints which represented the journey of his life. The man couldnââ¬â¢t help but notice that in his darkest times there was only one set of footprints, compared to the two sets which representing his own and Godââ¬â¢s footprints as he journeyed through his life. Boffââ¬â¢s first meaning of the rusty old mug is more than just an object but a su bject. The second meaning was one which describes the reality of the mug and the benefits one recieved when drinking from the mug. Mere water is more than just water it became good and fresh water that would quench the thirst and the needs of anyone who drank from it. I think it is important to note that this manifestation of the mug and the divine reality which it becomes when one drinks from it is much like the the what happens when the Eucharist once it has been consecrated which is a symbol of the true reality of God. After reading these two articles by Boff I got a clear picture of how any object, or idea can be more than just an idea or object, rather a subject unique to the individual which it examining it.In the second article, I found it interesting that Boff took something that seems trivial and can be seen to people as garbage and gave it a whole new definition as something with value and goodness. At first my reaction was confusion, i thought, why are we talking about something that kills people right after talking about ones virtues and realities, but then as I read on I was able to see why said that a cigarette butt could remind him of his fathers life.
